The CCTV layer kept every loaded camera live: each view change touched every
icon, every notification rebuilt every camera's state, and the picker listed
the whole catalog. With the default 4,000 cameras, a continental drag ran at
152-179 fps with 18-24 frames over 30 ms (worst 112 ms). It now runs at
235 fps with none. The layer now:
- shows icons only on or near the screen, and when zoomed out keeps one camera
per world-anchored cell (healthy feeds first), so panning keeps the same
cameras;
- grounds and draws coverage only for the cameras in view, the active camera
and its coverage neighbours, retrying a camera at most twice per view regime;
- reruns the view pass while the camera moves, paced by its own cost, and
projects with one matrix per pass instead of a Cesium call per camera;
- keeps the billboard buffer-usage hint fixed, so showing or hiding a few
icons no longer rewrites the vertex data of every billboard;
- lists the cameras in view (active camera first) in the picker, closing with
the count of cameras outside the view, and builds the full camera list in
the UI state only when it is read.
The HUD builds place context for its AI summary whenever the camera
settles, and each build paid for up to four reverse geocodes plus a Nearby
Places search, even when no OpenAI key was configured to use them.
- Ask GET /api/openai/hud-summary/status once; with no summary configured,
or after an unconfigured reply, make no place lookups for the page.
- Reverse-geocode at most two points: the view center and one viewport
point.
- Reuse a lookup until the view center moves a quarter of the visible
width, the camera's distance to it doubles or halves, or the camera
crosses a lookup height. The reused points are asked again, so only a
timeout, failure or empty answer spends.
- Repaint the last AI reply when a small pan leaves the context unchanged.
Cached-only hosts and voice context lookups are unchanged.
At 720px and narrower the panels live in the phone shell's tab sheets, so the
camera, scene and map-source tray harnesses open the matching tab (from the
keyboard where they check focus rings) before measuring, wait for the shell to
follow a viewport change, measure the container that actually scrolls, and run
the pin and compact-wing checks at 800px where the narrow desktop dock still
exists.
At 720px and narrower the globe stays full screen and a bottom tab bar (Layers,
Cameras, Context, Search, More) opens one bottom sheet at a time, presenting the
existing rail and dock panels in place. Sheets borrow panels without persisting
or sharing them and put back what they changed. Cockpit, recording and clean
view close the sheet; scene playback keeps STOP reachable. Focus moves into the
sheet and back to its tab, the required attribution stays visible above the
voice control and any sheet, and the page uses safe-area insets. Wider
viewports are unchanged.

The README source tree now lists src/ui/ instead of the removed
src/ui.js. docs/CODE-BOUNDARIES.md names src/ui/applicationShell.js as
the owner of panel layout, persistence and share restoration, and
docs/CURRENT-STATE.md places GLOBAL_POST_DEFAULTS in
src/ui/visualPresets.js. QA script comments and test assertion messages
that still named ui.js are updated the same way.
An ESLint no-unused-vars scan over src, server, scripts, tools, build
and pinokio, repeated until it is stable, reported these.
Runtime modules keep every call and drop only the unread binding:
- src/ui/cockpitInput.js: the unread result of enter()/exit().
- src/layers/launches/rendering.js: the unread entity returned by
entities.add().
- src/layers/radio/rendering.js: the unread map key in the horizon scan,
which now iterates the map's values.
QA scripts and tools drop an unused helper, two unused in-page module
imports, unused counters and destructured fields, and an unread wait
result. Tests drop source files read into variables that no assertion
uses, redundant StyleManager imports (the shell-source helper already
imports it), and unused destructured fields.
The one remaining report is the `_` loop variable in src/tools/schema.js,
which counts iterations and is intentional.
QA harnesses import some modules in the page by path, for example
import('/src/data/radio.js'). Those calls name exactly which bindings
they use, and every other export of these modules has no importer:
- src/data/radio.js: 20 aliases of radio layer methods and two
re-exported altitude constants. The radio layer keeps the methods.
- src/layers/transit/movement.js: tuning constants and course helpers
used only inside the module lose `export`; FIX_HISTORY_MAX,
DISPLAY_LAG_MIN_MS, DISPLAY_LAG_RESET_MS, FIX_NOISE_M, STOPPED_FIXES
and courseBetween, which nothing reads, are deleted.
- src/overlays/worldOverlay.js, src/splitFlap.js,
src/data/contactPlayback.js and src/voice/cloudVoiceAuth.js: helpers
and constants used only locally lose `export`.
- src/data/local_data/dams/dams.geojson held the same 704 features as
dams.geojsonl, feature for feature. Only the JSONL file is loaded
(src/sources/infrastructureData.js), so the GeoJSON copy is dropped
and the dataset README no longer mentions it.
- public/models/ship.glb is not loaded anywhere: no module, template,
stylesheet or script names it. Its row in public/models/README.md
goes with it.
Together these remove 960,345 bytes of tracked data.
Knip, configured with the application, package exports, scripts, QA
harnesses, workers, tools and tests as entry points, reports exports
that no module imports. Each was checked by hand against string-based
and namespace imports.
- Symbols that are still used inside their own module lose only the
`export` keyword (176 constants and helpers).
- Unused re-exports are removed from barrel modules (flight, military,
vessel, CCTV, directions, transit history, local ADS-B and street-level
policy modules).
- Declarations that nothing uses at all are deleted, among them
AIS_WATCHDOG_STATUSES, applyFilter, isRadioCountryCode, compactText,
DENSITY_STOPS, the unused CCTV endpoint constants, and the SDR band
constants.
- Default exports that nothing imports are removed. The ones in
src/data/earthquakes.js, src/data/telegeographySubmarineCables.js,
src/data/wind.js and src/data/bhoteKoshiLocator.js each constructed a
layer instance at import time that nothing used; those instances are
no longer created.
Every export of a package.json entry stays, as does TOMTOM_CREDIT,
which the traffic layer reads from the credits namespace it is given.
Delete three modules that no entry point, package export, test or script
imports:
- src/ui.js, a StyleManager subclass that pre-selected the standalone
catalog. Application controls are built through src/app/controls.js
and src/standalone/controls.js.
- src/standalone/ui.js, a bare re-export of StyleManager.
- src/data/localLayers.js, a list of default infrastructure, cable and
FIRMS layer instances. The catalog builds these layers itself.
With src/ui.js gone, the import-direction check keeps a single
compatibility exception (server/providers/local.js to
server/standalone/key-setup.js), and its test now asserts that a
src/ui.js importing standalone code is rejected. The boundary and
format registries and the docs that named these files are updated.
Remove locals that are assigned but never read: two unused
JulianDate.now() calls in the flights and military nearby queries, an
unread record lookup in the military snapshot renderer, unused axes from
the CCTV gizmo, an unused vessel state alias, and two unused ALPR
presentation handles. Each removed expression is side-effect free.
Drop module-local helpers that nothing calls (linkAbort, summarize,
stringOption, summarizeEntity and the polygonCenter, propertyObject and
unwrapProperties helpers only it used, CALLOUT_DOT_SIZE_PX) and unused
import specifiers in runtime modules, tests, QA scripts and tools.
None of the removed bindings is exported. Re-exports such as the ALPR
policy constants and every package export are unchanged.
CAMERA_PRESETS and flyToPreset have no callers. Startup uses flyToAustin,
which stays, and city navigation uses flyToPresetLocation from
src/locations.js. Neither removed symbol is a package export.
The router reads an absolute-form target's path without resolving dot
segments, so a target such as http://host/api/../x still reaches /api
middleware. Take that path the same way when deciding whether the API
response headers apply.
The Street View fallback now treats any forwarding header as forwarded, even
an empty one, before it spends the key.
The URL parser already turns backslashes into separators, so only encoded
separators need refusing; a pin prefix without a trailing slash is treated as
a directory.
The CCTV routes now use the keyless cross-site checks, which refuse cross-site
browser requests but accept forwarding headers, so cameras work behind the
documented reverse proxy. The Street View fallback is the one step that spends
a key; a request with forwarding headers skips it and gets the placeholder
frame, as when no key is configured.
The router mounts /api without regard to letter case, accepts a '.' as well
as '/' after the prefix, and routes absolute-form request targets, so the
API response headers were missing on those spellings. Match the same way, on
both the raw and the parsed path. The test now runs real dev and preview
servers.
Camera catalog image URLs were pinned by string prefix, so a URL that only
began with the agency's directory before dot segments or an encoded separator
were resolved still counted as inside it. The pin now parses the URL and
requires the same scheme, the exact host, no credentials, the default port and
a normalized path inside the pinned directory. Redirects on a pinned host must
stay inside the same directory.
Document the response format checks and API response headers alongside the
existing server hardening notes.
CCTV frames and the Street View fallback accept only JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and
AVIF, parsed from the media type essence and sent under the canonical type;
any other type is cancelled and falls through to the next fallback as a
failed upstream does. Live media must match its feed kind (video/mp4,
video/webm, or multipart/x-mixed-replace with a boundary) before the camera
is reported healthy or any byte is relayed, and its redirects now stay on the
registered origin like frames. Every /api/cctv route uses the same-site gate.
The GBFS proxy relays only bodies that parse as JSON, re-serialized under a
fixed application/json type.
Every /api response, including errors, partial responses, Host refusals and
unknown routes, now carries a sandboxing Content-Security-Policy and
X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff on the dev and preview servers. Vite's server
and preview headers only reach the documents and assets it serves itself, so
a small plugin sets them ahead of the Host check. A route's own policy is sent
as an additional policy rather than replacing it.
